The Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT), in coordination with the City of Superior, will begin a resurfacing project on East 2nd Street on Monday, April 6, 2020. The project will be split into two separate construction seasons; 2020 and 2021.
During construction, US 2-US 53 (East 2nd Street) will remain open to traffic; however, traffic will be limited to at least one lane in each direction at all times, and the speed limit will be reduced from 35 mph to 25 mph. Delays should be expected when traveling through the work zone, especially during commuting hours.
Access will be maintained to properties within the work zone that do not have alternate access available outside the work zone. Access to businesses and residences within the construction area may involve the use of temporary driveways and gravel surfaces.
During the first stage of construction in 2020, concrete repair of the East 2nd Street-Belknap Street intersection will be a priority prior to the onset of tourist traffic. Work during the first stage of construction, set to begin in April, will restrict turning movements at the East 2nd-Belknap intersection. For work at the Belknap Street intersection, a detour route will be signed for northbound passenger car traffic and for all truck and freight traffic.
