Wisconsin Point Dune Restoration Project

In July of 2017, The Wisconsin Coastal Management Program announced that the City of Superior had been awarded a grant in the amount of $1.375 million for the restoration of the dunes on Wisconsin Point.  

The project includes:

  • Development of infrastructure to allow public access and protect the sensitive dunes, as well as, the historical sites on the point
  • Consolidated parking from 20+ turnouts to approximately four parking areas
  • Restoration and re-vegetation of dunes
  • Removal of invasive plants
  • Boardwalks installed over the dunes for beach access across the sensitive ecosystem.  Will be ADA compliant.
  • Allouez Bay shoreline will be stabilized

Work is expected to begin in the spring of 2018.

The City of Superior had also received a Wisconsin Coastal Management grant for the engineering phase of the Wisconsin Point Dune Restoration Project and this phase of the project is complete.
